In the event of a glass or brittle plastic breakage occur, this procedure should be followed:
- Cease all operations within a 15 meter radius of the breakage.
- Cordon off a 20 meter radius around the breakage using the caution tape from the breakage kit.
- Remove all unsealed cartons/pouches from tables and lines and discard any product in cartons/pouches to waste.
- Put all open product(s) in immediate area on Hold, remove from the area and notify Production Supervisor/ Leading area, and QA.
- Ensure all contaminated personnel, footwear or clothing remains within cordoned area. Place all used PPE inside a rubbish bag.
- Glass breakage incident kit should be brought to the area. The glass breakage kit is located next to the maintenance area under sign.
- The person(s) responsible for cleaning should put gloves (breakage kit) on to avoid cutting themselves.
- Remove large pieces of glass/brittle plastic by hand (must wear gloves) and place in the bucket (breakage kit).
- Using the hand and crevice brush, all fragments of glass / brittle plastic should be swept up and placed inside the bucket. Check in, on and beside all pieces of equipment.
- When all glass/brittle plastic has been removed from the area, place all used utensils into bucket.
- Wash all affected areas thoroughly with water.
- Whole cordoned area should be visually checked by QA or a responsible member of the production team to ensure all fragments of glass / brittle plastic have been removed. Once this is complete and confirmation that all glass / brittle plastic has been removed, production can recommence.
- Employees’ shoes must be cleaned outside of the processing area to prevent further contamination and change their clothes.
- Remove used equipment (brushes, cloth etc.) from factory. Discard all used items to waste and reorder replacements for the breakage kit.
- A Glass/Plastic breakage report should be completed, the clean down verified and a small sample of the glass / brittle plastic attached to the report and stored.
